ROLLDOWN
Rolldown is Subterra’s award-winning patented system for the installation of fully structural close fit polyethylene pipe linings for pipelines.
Standard grade PE80 or PE100 pipe is used in the process. Lengths of the PE pipe are butt fused into strings of the appropriate length. These are then pushed through the Rolldown machine to reduce the liner diameter concentrically by approximately 10% to enable it to be inserted easily into the pre-cleaned host main. The reduced diameter of the PE liner pipe is retained naturally without any additional tension for later installation using the sliplining technique. Once inserted, the liner pipe ends are closed and the liner is pressurised with cold water to produce a close-fitting liner.
Rolldown liners are typically used for pressure pipe applications rated up to 16 bar and, dependant on site and existing network layout, can be used to install lengths from 300 to 1500 metres in one operation.
Since its introduction the technique has been successfully used on a wide range of water, wastewater, gas and industrial pipelining projects Worldwide, with over 450 kms having been installed to date.
Scope
- Structural Close Fit PE Lining System
- Site processed, Trenchless Lining Technique
- Applications for Gas, Water, Wastewater and Industrial Pipelines
- Available for host pipe diameters 100mm (4”) to 500mm (20”)
- Processes PE liner pipe SDRs 11 – 33 depending of size
- Insertion lengths in excess of 1 Km achievable in a single insertion
- Reduced diameter retained indefinitely until reverted by hydraulic pressurisation
- Can negotiate bends up to 11¼o
- Licences available with full technical support
Benefits
- Ambient temperature process – no heat required
- Sliplining-type insertion process does not disturb adjacent services
- Low winching loads and Rolldown reversion procedure minimise the residual stresses in the liner after installation
- Close-fit of lining maximises carrying capacity
- Smooth bore of PE liner pipe minimises friction
- Solves pipeline leakage problems
- Stops pipeline internal corrosion
- Solves water quality problems arising from internal pipeline corrosion of water mains
- 50+ year design life
SUBLINE
Subline is Subterra’s award-winning, patented technology for the site folding and installation of thin-walled structural or semi-structural close-fit polyethylene pipe liners.
A standard grade PE80 or PE100, thin-wall liner pipe is designed to form a tight fit within the host pipe. Lengths of the PE liner pipe are butt fused into strings of the appropriate length. These are then folded cold through the Subline machine on site, secured with temporary strapping, and then inserted into the precleaned main. The liner is pressurised with cold water to revert it to a round profile, and to a close fit with the host pipe. The liner end terminations and other connections are then completed according to requirements using commercially available fittings.
Since its introduction thee technique has been used on a substantial number of major large diameter pipeline rehabilitation projects throughout the World. Over 250 km of Subline close-fit PE liners have been successfully installed to date.
Scope
- Structural or semi-structural Close Fit PE Lining System
- Site Folded, Trenchless Lining Technique
- Applications for Gas, Water, Wastewater and Industrial Pipelines
- Available for host pipe diameters 75mm (3”) to 1500mm (60”)
- Processes PE liner pipe SDRs 26 and greater (thinner), depending on size
- Insertion lengths in excess of 1Km achievable in a single installation
- Can negotiate bends up to 45o depending on diameter
- Licences available with full technical support
Benefits
- Ambient temperature process – no heat required
- Sliplining-type insertion process does not disturb adjacent services
- Highly flexible process adaptable to wide range of field situations

SUBCOIL
Subcoil is Subterra’s award-winning factory-folded, close-fit, thin-wall polyethylene pipe lining system for pipelines in the diameter range 75mm to 225 mm.
Developed from Subterra’s innovative Subline technique, Subcoil is a lightweight, portable lining system that requires minimal specialist equipment on site. It has been developed primarily for water and gas distribution mains and offers the benefits of thin wall lining at the lowest cost and with the minimum of installation equipment requirements. Both structural and interactive liner options are available, with structural liners available for applications up to 6 bar for water, and up to 2 bar for gas.
The PE liner pipe is supplied in coils on a drum. The product is dispensed from a small site footprint drum trailer unit, which helps minimise public disruption and making it easy to use. The Subcoil liner pipe is inserted into the pre-cleaned main and then reverted to a round profile by pressurisation with air or water according to the liner size and application. The lining is completed by fitting liner end terminations and customer service connections designed specifically for use with Subcoil.
The technique has been successfully utilised to install in excess of 100 kms of Subcoil pipe by both Subterra and its licensees.
